Third Saturday Birding Sept. 20

September 20, 2025 @ 8:00 am - 10:30 am
Middle Fork Willamette River near Elijah Bristow State Park

Willamette Confluence

Meet at: Buford Park North Trailhead and Parking Lot. Lane County Park annual or day pass required.

This McKenzie River Trust property is located just upstream of the confluence of the Middle & Coast Forks of the Willamette River, west and north of Mt. Pisgah. It is not open to public access at this time, but staff members Charlie Quinn & Sarah Merkle have volunteered to lead this outing to see the many birds that are benefiting from its restoration and protection. (Sarah also leads our First Saturday Inclusive Bird Outings, and we hope we’ll be able to get regulars from both Saturdays to attend!)

We will be walking primarily on relatively flat, wide gravel roads for 2-3 miles. There is one gradual rise of less than 100 feet and some spots of larger cobbles. One short detour is available via side trails but is not required. There are a few larger logs and rocks, but no benches. There is a larger accessible porta potty at an internal area and at the Buford Park North Trailhead and Parking Lot where we will meet. Third Saturday Birding continues to be open to all participants. No registration is required.

We will meet in the Buford Park North Trailhead and Parking Lot and walk to the McKenzie River Trust property from there.  Parking will require a Lane County Park Parking permit. Day passes are $5 and can be purchased with a credit card at a Parking Kiosk in the area..

Please arrive a bit before 8:00 AM the Buford Park North Trailhead and Parking Lot, Eugene, OR 97405

Program Meetings

Our monthly program meetings have something for everyone. During the last year we hosted programs by naturalists, wildlife artists and expert birders on a variety of topics from the birds of Hawaii, to ravens, wolves, and people, to the migration of red knots. Participating in a program meeting is a fun way to get involved with Coast to Cascades Bird Alliance. Meetings are free and open to all.

We are currently meeting on Zoom and in-person as conditions allow on the 4th Tuesday of each month between September and May at 7:00 p.m.
