Florence Christmas Bird Count 2024
December 14, 2024 @ 7:30 am - 5:00 pm

It’s that time of year again. This year, the Florence CBC will be held on Saturday, December 14th. The Florence CBC has had a long history as a significant Count area. The Count Circle includes both inland and coastal areas, covering very diverse habitats which attract and support a correspondingly wide range of bird species. Since the individual areas are covered by teams, participants with a range of birding experience can all be valuable contributors. Many eyes and ears find more birds!
The Count will begin early Saturday morning and last through the day. Teams will be assigned locations prior to the actual day of the count, and will meet at their area location or at a gathering location and time determined by the team leader. Ellen Cantor says, “I will be organizing the creation of the teams. Some of you may prefer to form your own teams*,* but please let me know that you plan to do so as soon as possible, as this will be important information for me to consider as I begin the team formation process. You are welcome to help spread the word and share my email with anyone else who might be interested.”
Since the Florence CBC occurs very early in the CBC season, we will have already done a good deal of our necessary organizing, including much of the area teams’ formation, by early December. Please let us know of your interest, and we will do the best we can at finding a team you can bird with that will meet your needs and interests.
If you are interested please contact Ellen Cantor at ellencantor@gmail.com .
Looking forward to sharing this exciting team effort with many of you.
Program Meetings
Our monthly program meetings have something for everyone. During the last year we hosted programs by naturalists, wildlife artists and expert birders on a variety of topics from the birds of Hawaii, to ravens, wolves, and people, to the migration of red knots. Participating in a program meeting is a fun way to get involved with Lane County Audubon. Meetings are free and open to all.
We are currently meeting on Zoom and in-person as conditions allow on the 4th Tuesday of each month between September and May at 7:00 p.m.
