Third Saturday Birding April 20

This month’s 3rd Saturday Bird Walk was on April 20 at 8 am. We had a sunny morning for our April walk at Lane Community College. Twenty-nine people gathered to enjoy the walk led by Gerry Meenaghan. We heard California Quail, Orange-crowned Warblers, Purple Finches, and an Acorn Woodpecker singing and calling near the parking area. As we headed towards the wooded area an Osprey provided nice views flying over the nest with nesting material and then perching in a tree for a photo op. Purple Martins flew overhead. Once in the wooded area we saw a Hermit Thrush ahead on the trail and four California Quail further down the road. A Warbling Vireo and a Nashville Warbler were also discovered in the wooded area. Heading down to the ponds we saw Violet-green Swallows and Vaux Swift flying over. A Black-headed Grosbeak made an early appearance announcing their presence with a beautiful song.
